“It’s kinda hard to keep faith in the things that you do when everybody turns their back on you…Yeah I know a city that’s surrounded by a beautiful beach, the economy boosted by the drugs they move in the street, more clearer than the crystal sky, blue as the beast. The people ain’t got shoes for they feet, or food to eat, so they hurtin’ but what’s for certain you can get you some heat, and over beef you laid to rest like you was gettin’ some sleep. Where the little kids get ammunition you can’t get no nutrition, or any type of suitable living condition…ask a cat what really matters, Nowadays usually it’s his pockets.”
As always Talib speaks the truth. This man gives you food for thought. When I first heard this song, it made me stop and realize the things that are going on in the world today but are continuously overlooked. Listening to Talib speak about the children in this verse is depressing. Children have better access to guns than good food and water. And this is normal, everyday living for them…but it shouldn’t be. We need to be more conscious of the world around us and not just what is in front of us. We need to get back to what really matters.
