When I first heard Emily King, I was listening to the radio via the internet and I heard her singles Walk in my shoes and Hold me and that’s all it took for me to go and pick up her album. It was something about her songs that made me want to hear more and absorb myself in her music.
Music was already in her blood, with her being the daughter of two Jazz singers, Emily believes that she was born to be a singer and nothing else. In 2002, at the age of 16, she dropped out of school to pursue music full time.
Her very first song, (and my favorite track off the album) Business Man, is a song about “heartless capitalists”. “I always thought if I write a song, it’s not going to be about relationships,” she says. “There are so many things in this world to talk about.”
Emily touches on every aspect of life on her debut album “East Side Story”. There are a few songs about love and hurtful relationships, but the most personal to Emily is a track entitled Colorblind. It describes her experience as being a bi-racial child. “I think that song really brings it all together,” she says. “It sums up what I’m about, where I’m from, and gives an idea of the passion behind what I’m doing.”
East Side Story is in stores now.

Neo-soul star Dwele, is prepping to release his third studio album. According to Billboard, Dwele describes the album’s subject matter as “primarily…relationships. That’s what people tend to buy … Everything from the usual living life and learning about love. This album is moreso talking about relationships and what we have to do to make them work.”
Dwele describes the stlye of the new album. “Kind of a mixture. I have a couple songs that are more radio-friendly, but I’m actually trying to take my time and elevate. It’s all about going with the music and trying to follow that.”

This is Mario’s third single and video from his album Go. Mario told MTV, the single “Do Right” was inspired by him growing up and having friends who were never really on the right path, and Mario making better decisions than they did.
Mario says, “The first verse of the song talks about decisions that you make as a teenager or as a young adult that will change your future. Basically, it inspires you to do the right thing with your life. You have choices, you have willpower. I wanted it to actually be in the movie, on the soundtrack, but we’re working it out.”

Gwen Stefani is contributing $166,000 from her local concert to provide scholarships for students who lost their homes in San Diego’s recent wildfires.
“When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my show out of respect. But then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution,” the No Doubt singer said in a report to AP.
The Gwen Stefani After-the-Fires Scholarship will be open to college students and graduating high school seniors who lost their homes or their source of income in the October fires, which killed at least 10 people and destroyed more than 1,700 homes.
The scholarship application deadline is Jan. 28.
