And I’ve talked to other artists about how potentially to bridge that gap.” He also added, “The thing about hip-hop today is it’s smart, it’s insightful, and the way that they can communicate a complex message in a very short space is remarkable,” Obama said in the special. “I understand people want to be rooted in the community, they want to be down, but what I always say is that hip-hop is not just a mirror of what is. Gizmodo.com has reported that Jay-Z is set to launch a digital record label by Apple. Since Jay has announced his resignation from Def Jam, there have been thoughts as to what is Jay’s next big move.
SOHH spoke with Boy Genius of famous technology blog, The Boy Genius Report, and he told SOHH, “From what I’ve heard, Jay is simply the first person attached to it, he’ll obviously help with the urban division. I’m also hearing there will be a rock, and pop division so I’d expect other high-profile artists to be attached to that in terms of providing content.”
“Personally, I think it’s a great idea,” Boy Genius said of the partnership. “Traditional labels have failed to embrace the digital medium as effectively as they should have, and they’ve either got to make some serious changes, or they will be out of business pretty soon. With this deal, Apple would also own content. Jay and Apple love to be first, and this fits. They’re going to change the whole blueprint, so to speak.”
Very good look, Jay.
