Music’s Best Kept Secret: Wiz Khalifa

    March 22, 2008

Apparently I have been sitting under a rock, but kudos to my sister for putting me on to Wiz Khalifa!! It’s hard to believe that this dude hailing from Pittsburgh is under 21 years old. He raps so maturely and unlike many artists that are only ringtone rappers, this guy actually talks about something in his music! You can understand his hustle in each lyric and he also opens up about the adversity he has had to overcome in his personal life having to become an adult at an early age. Wiz also does it for me because he has versatility – where some of his songs will have you wanting to rock out like Lupe or Pharrell, while others will have you in deep thought like Talib. What more could someone ask for in an artist!!! Like a lot of artists today he gained his respect through viral promotional tactics including Facebook groups,MySpace, magazine features in Rolling Stone and XXL,and of course coverage from blogs. Last year Wiz was signed to Warner Brothers Records. I must say the east coast is making impressive strides these days, with Wale adding to this addition a couple of weeks ago – MMIM is excited to see what Wiz delivers this year.

Check out his single “Say Yeah.” The beat is sick!!

Wiz Khalifa’s album “Prince of the City 2″ is available in stores now.

    Perspectives from Angie Ange

    March 22, 2008

    Photobucket

MMIM is proud to announce that WKYS personality, also known as Angie Ange has decided to share her passion for music beyond radio with the world on our site. Her first feature, which can be found below is so inspiring and motivational. We look forward to seeing Angie’s perspectives on the world of music and we would love to hear your feedback.

“RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM A MUSIC LOVER”
    and i wonder if u know…what it means…2find your dreams!!…”
    Kanye West (graduation album..I wonder…)

Allow me to introduce myself…you can call me your Royal-Hypeness Angie Ange. I’m 23 years old, brown girl and proud of it baby! And I am currently living out all of my dreams. I’m a radio girl from P.G. County, Maryland. Graduated from the wonderful Howard University in May 2006 and immediately began my career as a radio personality in D.C., which is pretty challenging considering Washington D.C. is the # 8 market in the U.S. I went from lowly intern, to part time board operator to producer of a night show to leaving that station and having my own prime time show every night from 6pm-10pm. It’s called the Q&A invasion with QuickSilva and Angie-Ange. We make a pretty good team on the radio!! 93.9 WKYS…

5 years ago I would have never thought I’d actually be living my dreams. I was just a college student on the grind trying to build a foundation. I was stuck between wanting to be a MTV VJ like Ananda Lewis (who was big at that time), or becoming a big time radio personality. Since I was a kid I knew I wanted to do radio. I grew up listening to Donnie Simpson, Russ Parr in the morning, the Live Squad, and Big Tigger at night. Music was my escape into another world of fun, fantasy and thought. Radio personalities are that liason between the music world and the listeners who consume it. I was always overly talkative and silly and I had a very distinct voice for a little girl. My sister called me Froggy from the Lil Rascals, but its all good..Look at me now!!1 Who would have thought that a woman with a raspy/heavy voice is actually perfect for radio..I sure didn’t!

When I came across the My Mood is Music website I really connected with it because My Mood is Always Music. Music can make you feel a million different emotions. Its like your friend when no one is around. It’s the one thing that can relate to every way you feel and I dig that!

I’m not sure if ya’ll are like me, but sometimes I hear a song in my Itunes library and just leave it on repeat for a while. Right now that song is Kanye West’s “I Wonder” off of his graduation album. He says “I’ve been waiting on this my whole life!!” Eh, Mr. West…I feel you man!!

2 all My Mood is Music Fam, maybe you are living your dreams ..maybe you haven’t got there yet, but as someone who is…KEEP AT IT! I can’t tell you how to get there or what to do, but I will tell you I’ve never had a plan B..only Plan A and so far Plan A is working out just fine. It may be scary because who isn’t afraid of failure. All I am saying is just don’t’ give yourself the option to fail…until next time much love ya’ll!

    ~ANGE

If you are in the DC Metro Area..check out Angie-Ange on weeknights from 6pm-10m on 93.9 WKYS or listen online at www.939wkys.com.

    Jay-Z to Headline Rock Tour

    March 19, 2008

    PhotobucketPhotobucket

Here is your chance to see Jay once again, only if you plan on attending the Pemberton Festival in British Columbia this July.

Jay-Z will be in concert with Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Interpol and others Rock artists.

Even though the event is considered a Rock festival, adding Hov to the event will be “an attempt to appeal to a larger audience.” Head organizer Michael Eavis explained that his decision was based on the lack of ticket sales.

“There’s not as many as last year because we haven’t got the super, big, big, big sort of headlining act anymore. We’ve gone for something middle range although Jay-Z is huge in America,” Eavis told the BBC.

Tickets go on sale through www.PembertonFestival.comas early as Friday, March 28th. The event is set for July 25th-27th.

    Center Stage: Kid Sister

    March 15, 2008

Kid Sister is gaining a lot of attention with her single “Pro Nails” featuring Kanye West. And with the rap game lacking female rappers, Kid Sister could not have come at a better time.

Kid Sister started singing at a young age, and then moved on to musical theatre. It was not until 2005 that she broke into the rap game and started performing. Born Melissa Young, Kid Sister was raised in Illinois where she became a MC at parties hosted by her brother Josh Young known as J2K of the Chicago DJ duo Flosstradamus.

With her brother as her DJ and producer, Kid Sister debuted her single “Pro Nails” which was so popular as a digital download that Kanye West featured it on his 2007 mixtape “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” The collabo happened when Kid Sister’s boyfriend, who is Kanye’s DJ, played the song for Kanye, and he immediately decided that he wanted to be apart of the track.

Eye Weekly asked Kid Sister what makes her different from other female rappers. “I don’t write about fucking and all the stuff that most girl rappers get pigeonholed in, and that’s fine because I wanted to be different. I think that naturally I’m a little bit nerdy; I was always the funny, quirky, chubby girl in school and I think that that comes out. I rhyme about food, dancing, boys, shopping, going to the currency exchange and trying to cash my $42 cheque from the focus group that I did last night — normal, poor girl-just-starting-out shit.”

With her energetic flow and her 80′s style, Kid Sister is definitely a fresh face to watch out for.

Kid Sister was recently signed to Downtown Records and is preparing for her debut album entitled “KoKo B. Ware” (named after famous 80′s WWE wrestler) later on this year.

Kid Sister was featured last month on TRL for their Spankin’ New Ladies Week.
