Here is some new music from multi-talented Raphael Saadiq’s newest project, “The Way I See it”. “The way I see it” is due September 16th on Columbia Records.
Saadiq says that his inspiration for the album was “cooling out and surfing in Costa Rica and The Bahamas, I ran into people from all kinds of places. I noticed everybody was listening to classic soul music. When I came back home the music for this album flowed organically, naturally. Since I have my own studio, I was able to perfect it, take my time to make it right. I was able to live with it, day after day and that had a lot to do with how the album turned out.”

When you think of the term “MC”, who comes to your mind? When you think of the term “rapper”, who do you think of? Are these two different categories or are they both defined as the same thing?
I had this conversation with someone a while ago and we argued the difference between an MC and a rapper. She explained to me that a MC is someone who rhymes with a meaning or a purpose to “move the crowd.” The original definition of an MC is Master of Ceremonies or to Move the Crowd, and almost every entertainer today, whether you are a rapper or MC can succeed in that department.
I was given examples of Eric B. and Rakim, Consequence, KRS-One, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Nas for MCs, and for rappers I was given Nelly, Lil’ Wayne, Bow Wow, Ludacris, Soulja Boy, Plies, and T-Pain, just to name a few. I can see the contrast in the sets of names given but she still could nott give me any clarity.
Is there a real explained difference of a MC and a Rapper? Or is the definition defined by the individual? Let us know what you think.
This song was released in 2004 so its not THAT much of a throwback, but old enough. I love this song, and the video is hilarious. This week’s Throwback Joint is Slum Village ft. Kanye & John Legend “Selfish.”
