    What’s With These Kids?

    October 31, 2008

The other day I was thinking about this whole retro movement and how a lot of artists are starting to follow suit with this trend. It also did not help that one of the groups who I am sure that we all have seen before The Retro Kidz performed at my homecoming bringing me back to this reality. Living in NY for some time I had seen the Retro Kidz at many parties parlaying in 80’s attire with high top fades and getting the party started wherever they were at LITERALLY..All of them can dance their ass off, but then I started to wonder okay what else do they do?

Well my questions were answered when I saw their video on MTV, entitled New Era, and I learned that this interesting group were actually rappers. While I respect their courage to walk around in 80’s attire and not care about what anyone else thinks there is another group of kids that to me deserves a lot more attention……

These are The Cool Kids, that hail from Chicago. While their style is also unique they don’t wear high top fades and their music in my opinion brings versality. Instead of completely mirroring the past they have added their own style in the mix and it actually sounds good. Currently the Cool Kids are set to go on tour with Q-Tip and they also have a mixtape out entitled That’s Stupid. MMIM wants to know which group of kids you like best? Check out videos below from both groups and speak your mind.

The Dream Ft. Lil Jon – Let Me See The Booty

    October 31, 2008

Check out The Dream’s latest single entitled Let Me See the Booty featuring Lil Jon. I must say this song has the standard yodeling sound that we are all used to hearing from The Dream, but I can definitely see this track being a hot club banger. This song will be featured on The Dream’s upcoming album Love vs. War, which is slated to hit stores in December.

New Album in Store For Ginuwine

    October 31, 2008

I know that some of you have been wondering where all of the R&B acts from the nineties have been. Well the Washington metropolitan native that first hit the scene with his sensual single Pony is currently working on an album that is slated to be released in 2009. Billboard.com has reported that the album will be released on Notifi Records and is being produced by fellow talented singer Tank.

If this album is anything like Ginuwine’s past projects that included hits like In Those Jeans, Anxious and Differences I am sure it will be a classic. Let’s hope he can deliver this time around and make his mark. The music game could use some smooth R&B so I am looking forward to the relesase of this project.

Trailer for Gnarls Barkley New Video – Mystery Man

    October 30, 2008

Who knew a new album from this duo was on the way? Apparently Gnarls Barkley plans to release an EP titled Who’s Gonna Save My Soul. The first single off the project is Mystery Man. This track was supposed to be on the last album, and for whatever reason it didn’t make it. Below is the trailer for the single. Who’s Gonna Save My Soul will be released on November 11th.

Tweet and Joy Cover “Its a Man’s World”

    October 30, 2008

Man, watching this performance makes me want to call Tweet myself and tell her to “hurr up” and release that new album. I’ve been waiting patiently…I need some material from this songbird. Until then, this will do…

Tweet is performing “It’s a Man’s World” along with singer Joy Denalane. The video also has some great footage. I see you Dwele and Bilal.

    Lyrical Analysis “Daykeeper”

    October 30, 2008

This week’s lyrical analysis is brought to our music lovers by The Foreign Exchange with their smooth single “Daykeeper.” What could they be referring to? In Phonte’s and Muhsinah’s lyrics, “And when the sun rises, she watches over me” I believe they are metaphorically speaking of music, for it will always be there with you through whatever you may experience… I’ve listened to this song several times so far and I think I got a good idea of their concept. I’m such a huge fan; I just had to post the lyrics in its entirety!

    I can’t sleep at night
    Cause they won’t see me
    Running from the daylight
    To where she keeps me

And when the sun rises, she watches over me

    Waiting for the daylight
    Cause then she’ll keep me
In the safety of her arms
    She never leaves me

And when the sun rises, she watches over me

He tells me all his secrets
    He thinks nobody knows
    We lay together in daylight
    I love him so

And when the sun rises, he watches over me

It’s not like it was before
And she can’t keep me anymore
    She loves me…

Why don’t you stay here with me
I pray that our morning won’t leave
Let me keep you, then you’ll see
Don’t hide the truth from yourself
It’s you that I’ll love and protect
Let me keep you here with me

Let MMIM know your thoughts on what they could be expressing in this song.

On The Come Up: Don Juan

    October 30, 2008

MMIM: So who is Don Juan, and can you explain what the importance of integrity, honesty, and reliability means to you as a rapper?
DJ: Don Juan™ is a hard worker with a passion for music. I live it breathe it and bleed it. Honesty, reliability, loyalty all that is very important. I feel as though music is the art of your life and or imagination you must be held accountable for everything you say within your lyrics, so as a rapper I try to keep it as real and truthful as possible.

MMIM: Your bio stated that you were signed to Big Money Records. Are you still on this label, and if not what are you currently doing to promote your music?
DJ: Well I’m no longer under the Big Money label but I have a personal relationship still with each and everyone of them everything in life happens for a reason. I wanted to be further recognized, and not in the shadow of other star celebrities so now I just grind and get things done the best way I know how.

MMIM: You have opened up for artists including Kanye West, Juvenille, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, and Mike Jones to name a few. What was it like opening up for these artists?
DJ: It’s always special. Fans don’t come to see me they come for the headliners so being the under dog is always hard but the outcome of the performances is always overwhelming as humble as I am, as long as I gain 1 or 10 or 1,000 new fans then I feel as though my job requirment have been met.

MMIM: Can you tell us what it was like to be nominated for “Best Video Producer” and “Most Likely to Succeed” at the 2nd Annual DMV Entertainment Music Awards?

DJ: It meant the WORLD to me. I get respected a lot of places and I’ve travel just about all over the world but to get recognition at home is the best feeling ever…I love my city!

MMIM: Loving the songs Ready to Go and Hold You Down. What inspired you to create these tracks, as well as use auto tune in Hold You Down. Can you tell our readers what is keeping Don Juan busy these days?
DJ: Well those 2 songs are what I feel. Men are scared to say to their woman whether it’s because of ego or timing or timid or whatever. I try to put in my song what men should say and what woman would love to hear. Auto tune was just to do it to say I’ve done it (laughs), but nowadays I’m keeping busy in the gym getting my stage performance on point. I’m about to start my tour along with David Banner.

MMIM: You recently performed at Bowie State University. Can you tell us how that
performance went and if it was well received?

DJ: I always loved performing at Bowie State. They show love, but since that was a last minute favor and job. I think it turned out very well.

MMIM: How can our readers reach out to Don Juan?
DJ: My myspace (www.myspace.com/mostjuanted) Or hit my manager J Pooh 301 978 6151.
I LOVE THOSE WHO LOVE ME!!!!

Thanks to Kim & MMIM-Big Shout To U.N & Avery. Thanks A lot! Please Continue To “Hold Me Down.”

    Return of the Foxx

    October 30, 2008

I was listening to the radio this morning and if you haven’t already heard, Jamie Foxx is set to release his third studio album “Man’s Intuition” on December 16th. He went on to explain the inspiration for the album was by his frustration about understanding what the opposite sex really want, therefore, wanting to please them with this album. The first single off the upcoming album “Just Like Me” is already making its buzz on the radio. He further stated his label is excited about this album so I am looking forward to seeing what he has to follow up Unpredictable.

Mya to Release New Album – In Japan Only

    October 30, 2008

So I guess Kelly Rowland and Amerie aren’t the only artists that feel that the love is more genuine overseas. You can now add R & B singer Mya to that list. Mya will release her fifth studio album “Sugar and Spice” on December 3rd. Unless you live or are making a trip to Japan in December, you won’t be able to buy this release. Mya has decided not to release her album in the states. I just learned that she did the same thing last year with her album “Liberation”. I didn’t even know she released an album last year – it was only available in Japan.

I guess you go where the love is…
