This week’s lyrical analysis is brought to our music lovers by The Foreign Exchange with their smooth single “Daykeeper.” What could they be referring to? In Phonte’s and Muhsinah’s lyrics, “And when the sun rises, she watches over me” I believe they are metaphorically speaking of music, for it will always be there with you through whatever you may experience… I’ve listened to this song several times so far and I think I got a good idea of their concept. I’m such a huge fan; I just had to post the lyrics in its entirety!
I can’t sleep at night
Cause they won’t see me
Running from the daylight
To where she keeps me
And when the sun rises, she watches over me
Waiting for the daylight
Cause then she’ll keep me
In the safety of her arms
She never leaves me
And when the sun rises, she watches over me
He tells me all his secrets
He thinks nobody knows
We lay together in daylight
I love him so
And when the sun rises, he watches over me
It’s not like it was before
And she can’t keep me anymore
She loves me…
Why don’t you stay here with me
I pray that our morning won’t leave
Let me keep you, then you’ll see
Don’t hide the truth from yourself
It’s you that I’ll love and protect
Let me keep you here with me
Let MMIM know your thoughts on what they could be expressing in this song.

not going as deep as it being about “music” but it’s possibly a poetic song about an on going relationship, the whole sun rises repetition is showing consistent nights spent together…but eventually, “he” realizes its not like it used to be and no longer wants to stay together, yet they keep seeing eachother…& she insists on holding on because she feels they have this great bond..and that he is also in denial..
