The other day I was thinking about this whole retro movement and how a lot of artists are starting to follow suit with this trend. It also did not help that one of the groups who I am sure that we all have seen before The Retro Kidz performed at my homecoming bringing me back to this reality. Living in NY for some time I had seen the Retro Kidz at many parties parlaying in 80′s attire with high top fades and getting the party started wherever they were at LITERALLY..All of them can dance their ass off, but then I started to wonder okay what else do they do?
Well my questions were answered when I saw their video on MTV, entitled New Era, and I learned that this interesting group were actually rappers. While I respect their courage to walk around in 80′s attire and not care about what anyone else thinks there is another group of kids that to me deserves a lot more attention……

These are The Cool Kids, that hail from Chicago. While their style is also unique they don’t wear high top fades and their music in my opinion brings versality. Instead of completely mirroring the past they have added their own style in the mix and it actually sounds good. Currently the Cool Kids are set to go on tour with Q-Tip and they also have a mixtape out entitled That’s Stupid. MMIM wants to know which group of kids you like best? Check out videos below from both groups and speak your mind.

I admire their style! The haircuts are fresh off the retro scene….I didn’t think a barber would remember how to cut them joints up!

Being that i was a youngun and rocked box fades..even slopes….it’s cool…but there are so many people doing it..that the originality is lost..it’s a trend now..retro style…by the end of the year, they will move on to something else…Kidz in the Hall kind of started this…and they got lyrical skills..so it’s all about surviving without the gimmicks.
