A lot of things have happened in the past and present within the world of music There have been instances within the music world that have made us dance, sing out loud or just watch in awe. And some things, just had us shaking our head and wondering, “what were they thinking?!?!?”
MMIM has come up with a list of things that went down this year, that have been played out. Or in other words things that we DO NOT want to see brought into 2009. MMIM wants to know if you agree with this list and if there are some things that you would not like to see as well.
1. Autotune – It needs to be put to rest now. It seems like this year everyone has had their hands on it. Too much of the same thing…will get on your damn nerves.
2. The word “Swagger” – in ‘09 we need a another word. No one has “Swagger Like Us” or no one wants to “jock your swag”. Everyone claims to have “swagger” these days, can you please pick another adjective to describe yourself?
3. Songs that come along with dance moves ex. Get Silly, Spiderman…you get the point.
4. The “deluxe” re-release of an album – I’m tired of wasting my money to buy an album more than once just for the sake of gaining two or three hot songs…put it all on there and bless us one time when you feel the album is complete.
5. Multiple remakes of a hot song, over and over and over…we had enough of “A Mili”. I was even thinking about making a version myself. Diddy’s version of “Swagger Like Us” or shall we say “Swagger Like Puff” will go down in the music history books.
What else that has happened in music this year that you cannot stand to see in ‘09? Let us know and meet us in the comments section.
Billboard had the opportunity to sit down and chat with newcomer Shontelle on how she was discovered and how Obama is a fan of her song “Battle Cry”. Her debut album “Shontelligence” is out now. She has a few hits on this CD, this is definitely one to pick up.
Here is an unreleased track by Brandy called “One Thing” that was leaked online. This apparently is a leftover song from her latest effort “Human,” however I feel it should have been included on the album. It was produced by the talented Brian Kennedy, who is an Irish singer/ songwriter well known for his ballads. Let MMIM know if you too are feeling this song.

One Thing
Blame it on the remix – no pun intended. But these days I guess a track just isn’t complete if it could not be re-released without adding an additional artist to the mix. Check out the remix for Jamie Foxx’s Blame It track featuring Yung Joc and T-Pain from his latest album Intuition. Although I am not a fan of Jamie using auto tune, this song does make me want to bust a move. Let MMIM know what you think.

Jamie Foxx FT Yung Joc & T-pain – Blame It Remix
Not too sure of what album this track will be featured on. However, it is a banger! Check out this new track from Ne-Yo entitled Publicity and let MMIM know what you think.
Check out the tracklist below for India Arie’s upcoming album, Testimony: Vol.2, Love & Politics. The album is slated to be released on February 10th and her current single Chocolate High featuring Musiq has already received great buzz. I don’t know about you all but I am looking forward to the release of Ms. Arie’s album. Her music is so eloquent and she exudes passion in every lyric that she sings. Could you not feel her pain in her classic song I Am Ready for Love and we all love her for embracing our inner “Queendom” with I Am Not My Hair. Let MMIM know if you are looking forward to seeing more work from Ms. Arie.

This is the first ever Hip Hop Inaugural Ball that will take place here in DC on January 19th. Tickets look a little pricey for me but for those of you who can attend…enjoy! It will be an historic event.
This is one artist whose album was so underrated this year. Shine was a great album with some solid tracks and now I’m more eager to hear this new project that Estelle will release in 2009. She is back in the studio and taking a different approach this time around.
“I’m really excited to start working on my next album. I’m going to go totally left field and surprise a lot of people… I’m going to hit it out the ball park with this one. I’m thinking a mix of Coldplay and Marvin Gaye.”
I can’t wait to hear the album’s first single, better yet the entire album.
The throwback joint of the week is brought to you by Mr. Tevin Campbell with his hit single “Can We Talk.” I’ve always loved this song, the melody was so nice it strikes good memories of my younger days. I love Quincy Jones for his talents and will always respect him as an iconic composer/ producer. Let us know how this song use to make you feel. Happy New Year everyone from the elite ladies of MMIM!
Beyonce has already expressed interest in singing at President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration. Check out her rendition of popular song God Bless the USA, where she declares her patriotism for the US and let MMIM know what you think.

Beyonce – God Bless the U.S.A
Ciara, or shall I say Super C (who is CIara’s Alter Ego for those of you who don’t know) recorded her own version of Beyonce’s “Diva”. This track is supposedly for Ciara’s Fantasy Ride Mixtape. I guess the album release maybe further away than we think. Anyways, Ciara did her thing on this track.
This week’s Lyrical Analysis is brought to you by Shontelle with her single entitled “Plastic People” which is the next single to be released from her debut album “Shontelligence.” Shontelle is a Bajan singer-songwriter as well as a rapper and has been around (behind the scenes) for a while, working with popular Caribbean artistry such as Alison Hinds and American crossover Rihanna, but Shontelle has now stepped into the mainstream and was recently signed to Street Records Corp/ Universal Motown Records and her single to further show her talents. In her lyrics in this song, I feel she is referring to those she has dealt with in the industry who have slighted her in any form or fashion. These lyrics can also apply to everyday people we, in general, have dealt with or dealing with in the present. Let MMIM know your thoughts.
[Verse 1]
Carry me home away from all these things
That keep deceiving me
I’m all alone nowhere no one
To show me where to go
Take my money wear my shirt
Using me to do your dirt
Judging me when all the time
You’re the one that did the crime
Someone tell me what’s the truth
Save the children, save the youth
What about our hopes and dreams
You’re not what you really seem oh
[Chorus]
Nation of the plastic people
Here’s the church and here’s its people
Preaching good and doing evil
Trying to treat you less than equal
Saying this and meaning that
Twisting up into your back
Don’t be cast into the sequel
Living in a nation of plastic people (plastic people)
[Verse 2]
You’re just like a rose I wanna grow
So I can serve my purpose here
I wanna fly before I die
Be like a bird and touch the sky
Take my home, and take my name
Generation cellophane
There’s no difference all the same
I don’t know when I’m ashamed
Can you walk inside my shoes?
Don’t be mad if I refuse
Artificial attributes,
Different leaders same old news
[Chorus]
What do you know,
It’s a situation begging for salvation
Looking to the sky to answer to all my frustration
There’s a choice I’m making
And there’s a chance I’ll take it
It’s the only life I got to live so I can’t fake it
Generation.
Desperaton.
Demonstration.
Provocation.
Population.
Segregation.
Isolation.
Suffocation.
Degradation.
Desolation.
Living in a plastic nation.
