MMIM: Explain to MMIM readers, the inspiration behind the your name Big K.R.I.T. What does it stand for?
BK: It stands for King Remembered in Time. It’s a humble way of saying, I’m on top of my game and what I do before I die. I think its important to let people know that I am coming and when I do there won’t be any stopping. I give my all, all the time. Because every artist should feel like he the best at what he do.
MMIM: I feel you!
BK: I just feel like I need to incorporate that in my name.
MMIM: When did you realize that music could be a full time job for you?
BK: When I got out there and starting doing some production and I started to see how people was affected about the music I was putting out. I was doing a lot of songs talking about my life and the shit I’ve seen in my city, so a lot of people could relate. And they would come back and say, “mannn K.R.I.T., I’m feeling that, you got me through this situation, I can relate.” That’s when I decided that is something that I wanted to do. Get paid, doing what I love to do and help my people out.
MMIM: It’s so much better when your fans can really reach out to you, ya know?
BK: EXACTLY, man.
MMIM: I hear the soul in your voice; I’m here with you.
BK: Well you know, it’s all good, I love to hear that, but at the end of the day, I’m trying to make that music that people can relate to. It’s crazy out here now, and it’s a lot of stuff that people need to talk about.
MMIM: In the heart of a recession, what motivates you to keep making music and maintaining your image?
BK: Mannnn, my family, and all the people I’ve been with and been down with me. I feel like I can’t let myself or them. Recession or not, I gotta stick this through and make it pop. I gotta a lot of people that need my help , I need their help, I need to put them in a position where they can reach their goals and dreams.
MMIM: You might need to put that cape on because you might have to save hip hop.
BK: Mannn, I’m prepared to do so.
MMIM: What skill or craft would say you are more gifted at? Rapper or producer, because you have some hot beats.
BK: Awwwww, man! I like being an artist sometimes more because a beat can so much paint a picture. At the end of the day, I can make a jamming beat but it didn’t do too much for you. You can’t do too much but ride to a beat. Or I can spit a verse, a freestyle a capella and you can really get where I am coming from. Now you understand what I am about. You need them words.
MMIM: Have you done any features or produced for any big names in the game?
BK: I would love too work with the big names, but I’ve only worked with underground local artists.
MMIM: What’s coming up next for Big K.R.I.T.?
BK: Well the CD, See Me On Top 3, is on CD baby right now for purchase. Im going to drop a mixtape with one of my artists. And I’m just going to keep feeding ya’ll music. I got a mixtape that is coming out that is going to a free download.
MMIM: How can your fans reach out to you?
BK: http://www.myspace.com/bigkrit or http://www.multirecords.net/ AND kritikalproductions.com
