Today was my first time being introduced to this talent named Melanie Fiona. I heard one track and I wanted to hear more. It wasn’t long before I started to google and discover more information about this young lady. Her voice is so smooth and soulful and with producers such as Andrea Martin, Future Cut, Vada Nobles, J. Phoenix, Peter Wade, Salaam Remi, and Questlove assisting in the creation of her debut album, it bound to be a classic.

Big Hello to all the music lovers! This week’s throwback joint is brought to you by the talented female group “Blaque” with their hit single “Bring It All To Me” which was released on their debut, self-titled album in 1999. I absolutely loved this song as it brought on a smooth, happy mood every time I hear it, as well as delivered a positive message regarding relationships. I was getting into my junior year in college when this song was released. I’ve recently learned that they are scheduled to release a new album entitled “Private Show” sometime in 2009. I was wondering what happened to these girls, they were great talents in the making. Let MMIM know of your memories surrounding this song.
Dream’s new album is slated to be released on March 10th! Oh Goody! Check out his track Walking On the Moon featuring Kanye West and let MMIM know what you think. The beat on this track sounds pretty futuristic. I am looking forward to hearing the rest of this man’s album!
We all know that Ms.Badu recently had a beautiful baby girl, but we have also been wondering when she will be releasing Return of the Ankh. It was pushed back and slated to be released this month, which obviously is not happening. However, we do know that Annie, as well as Jump In The Air will be the singles for her upcoming album. Check out a snippet below of Jump In The Air from one of Erykah’s performances and let MMIM know what you think.
Okay so I was wandering around Ryan Leslie TV today, and I wanted to share these treats with you all. Check out the video below where this singer, engineer, and producer creates his hit Addicted. In addition I wanted to share Ryan performing my favorite song off of his album, Valentine. This dude is DOPE point blank!
Check out this letter that John Legend wrote in regards to the derogatory cartoon that was printed in the New York Post. Kudos to Mr. Legend for standing up for what he believes and making an effort to attack IGNORANCE. The cartoon image can also be found below.
Dear Editor:
I’m trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community. Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy? Did it occur to you that blacks have historically been compared to various apes as a way of racist insult and mockery? Did you intend to invoke these painful themes when you printed the cartoon?
If that’s not what you intended, then it was stupid and willfully ignorant of you not to connect these easily connectable dots. If it is what you intended, then you obviously wanted to be grossly provocative, racist and offensive to the sensibilities of most reasonable Americans. Either way, you should not have printed this cartoon, and the fact that you did is truly reprehensible. I can’t imagine what possible justification you have for this. I’ve read your lame statement in response to the outrage you provoked. Shame on you for dodging the real issue and then using the letter as an opportunity to attack Rev. Sharpton. This is not about Rev. Sharpton. It’s about the cartoon being blatantly racist and offensive.
I believe in freedom of speech, and you have every right to print what you want. But freedom of speech still comes with responsibilities and consequences. You are responsible for printing this cartoon, and I hope you experience some real consequences for it. I’m personally boycotting your paper and won’t do any interviews with any of your reporters, and I encourage all of my colleagues in the entertainment business to do so as well. I implore your advertisers to seriously reconsider their business relationships with you as well.
You should print an apology in your paper acknowledging that this cartoon was ignorant, offensive and racist and should not have been printed.
I’m well aware of our country’s history of racism and violence, but I truly believe we are better than this filth. As we attempt to rise above our difficult past and look toward a better future, we don’t need the New York Post to resurrect the images of Jim Crow to deride the new administration and put black folks in our place. Please feel free to criticize and honestly evaluate our new President, but do so without the incendiary images and rhetoric.
So two nights ago I was granted the opportunity to attend Neyo, Jasmine Sullivan, and Musiq’s tour. All I have to say is simply amazing!!! Jasmine opened the show and looked fantastic wearing a purple satin piece and dainty sweater. She sung her hits of course Lions, Tigers, and Bears, Bust the Windows Out Your Car, In Love With Another Man, and closed her set with I Need You. Ms. Sullivan sounds amazing live and I will not be surprised if in a couple of years she will be headlining her own tour.
Jasmine was followed by fellow Philly Native Musiq Soulchild and his performance was great. He had an all girl band that rocked the house. The thing I love about live perfomances is that you never realize how many hits an artist has until they perform them right in front of you giving you the opportunity to see those sounds come to life. Musiq granted the audience tunes including Buddy, Half Crazy, Love Don’t Change, Teach Me, If You Leave, and Radio. He also performed my favorite song from him right now So Beautiful, and just like I had hoped it was like a whole new experience live. The instrumentation in this song is already crazy on the album, so live it was in rare form!!! In addition to sounding good, Musiq also looked to par as well and his charasmtic personality easily took over the stage.
Ne-Yo closed the show, who by the way I got to meet. Extremely nice guy! He’s is another artist that exudes talent and has an abundance of hits. Everyone was on their feet during his set, which he opened with his classic song Because of You. Ne-Yo also graced the audience with pieces including Single, So You Can Cry, Miss Independent, Make it Work, Go on Girl, So Sick, and Closer. When this man sung Lie To Me and Stop this World he put his heart into it. It was like you could feel each word he was saying and the audience LOVED it! Regardless of your opinion of him everyone has to admit Ne-Yo embodies talent from dancing, singing, and of course writing hits! If this tour has not taken over your city yet I suggest you go check it out. It gets my stamp of approval for a soulful night out! Until my next concert experience peace and love.
Check out this video below from the concert. This is from a show Ne-Yo did in Florida a couple of days prior to the one at Constitution Hall. Watch this man work!
