OMG I love seeing production in the works. I was discussing this with my friend last night and we were saying how pretty much everything that is done now a days is a remake, remix or simply something that is replicated from the past. However, there were a couple of producers that stood out!! I would have to say that Polow da Don, Timbaland and of course the Neptunes have created some pretty fresh and classic pieces. Check out this clips below of these producers in the zone and let MMIM know what you think. Do you agree or disagree with the people that I mentioned?
Polow da Don, and platinum winning artist, Justin Timberlake, working together in the studio.
Pharrell in the studio making Press Play with Diddy.
Timbaland and Jay Z in the studio.

I agree Kim! There are many more that could be added to this list…we are in the times of the CPU producer…you can cop a korg or any other $2000 play station board or better and make it happen with an array of beat making programs…some folks do have distinct style…their work really does stand out…but in the process every artist wants the new sound from that specific producer, in which the outcome is 10 hits on the top 100 that sound similar because it’s the same guy crafting the hits. He has a favorite drum, hi-hat, chord, synths, and most only can play about 10 keys! But as you continue to open yourself towards different styles of music from all eras…you might hear a drum pattern that’s exactly the same as Timbo’s or whoever…the inspiration has to come from somewhere…most of the time what may sound new to your ear in disguise or a manipulated form…it’s really something you know very well!
Good post!

the first track that Timbo played Hov…became the music for “Come As You Are” by Brandy…I respect Timbaland…nobody can make tracks as unpredictable as him when he is inspired…his drum patterns are very usual…his influences are garage, techno, and Indian music…dose’nt use samples of old records…Pharrell is about the keys…he’s a melody type thinker…Chad is more of the tempo type thinker…he adds the funk…Kanye is mean, No I.D., Dallas Austin,Tone & Poke, Chucky thompson, Rich Harrison, to name a few others.
