Check out this performance where Raphael Saadiq opens his show at Blue Note Tokyo with a Michael Jackson Tribute singing “I Want You Back.” He does an amazing job and as always he knows how to become one with the stage with those dance moves. Let MMIM know what you think.
Check out the latest mixtape entitled Anticipation from the R&B mixtape master Trey Songz. This is a collection of Songz’s original material as he prepares us for his upcoming album Ready, due out in August. Trey the anticipation is killing us, and we are more than ready to hear what your next studio project is going to sound like.
This is one album that I am definetly looking forward to. “She Ain’t Got” is LeToya’s second single from her upcoming album “Lady Love.” I am so pleased by both singles that were released and in this video LeToya steps out of her box. The energy is crazy and she looks gorgeous! Check it out and let us know what you think.
The Paxtons album “WORK” drops today. You can purchase the album via itunes and if you want to know more about The Paxtons, check MMIM or go to www.paxtonavenue.com. Below is a song from the album titled “Theme Music.”
Erykah Badu and The Roots did their tribute to the King on Jimmy Fallon recently. I must say that not only is this a great collaboration but they covered these songs quite nicely. Oh yeah, that’s Questlove on the vocals for Billie Jean.
When I first listened to Shontelle’s album, this song stuck with me. I really like the uptempo beat of this song and the video is great as well. Check it out “Battlecry” and let us know what you think.
In the summer of 2006, Q signed with So So Def/Virgin and appeared on a number of songs with A-list artists including, Fabolous’ “Make Me Better,” featuring Ne-Yo, “No One” by Alicia Keys, “Fine” by Mary J. Blige, and “Can’t Help But Wait” by Trey Songz. When Jermaine Dupri was named an executive at Island in early 2007, Q wasn’t sure how he would fit into JD’s new situation. “While he was getting established in the [Def Jam] building he kept telling me, ‘Be patient, I got you,’” says Q. “He told me that for a good year and a half straight. Then he called me one day and was like, ‘I might have a situation that would be good for you.’ We sat down and that’s when he told me about the Tag deal. He said it would be a good look for me and that I deserved it because I grind hard for what I want and that’s what the whole brand is about.”
Dubbing himself “The new breed of hip-hop,” Q is now ready to take over. With production on his debut album so far from No I.D. and Jermaine Dupri, Q promises his first LP will be a proper introduction to exactly who he is and what he stands for. “When I really put it together, I could be in the category of Rakim, Nas and Jay-Z,” he says. “Most rappers just be in the streets talking about selling drugs and stuff like that. I’m more into telling my story. Big was someone who was into telling his story, ‘Pac was a person who told his story, Jay is a person who tells his story.”
Thanks to the help of Jermaine Dupri, Q will not only get to rap about the world as he sees it, but he will also get to rap over the contagious club bangers executive producer JD is known and loved for. “JD told me, ‘Don’t stop grinding and being the person that you are,’” says Q. “’Just like you were determined to meet me and it took a minute to get it going and you was always in the studio, don’t stop now that you’ve got a deal. Just act like you ain’t got it. Stay hungry and be consistent.’ I told him, ‘Dawg, I’m gonna make you proud.’”
Check out Dwele’s tribute to Michael Jackson where he remixes and recreates “Human Nature” from scratch. Very creative, but what can you expect from Dwele…
Words cannot begin to fully express the love I’ve had and still have for this talented being, Michael Joseph Jackson. I can literally say that I’ve grown up with this man in my life in some shape or form. I remember tagging along with my father as he visit his friends and I use to whisper in his ear to make sure he tells all of his friends that I LOVE Michael Jackson. LOL. It was his music along with his sister Janet I would listen to as far back as I can recall before I started my personal evolution in music. He has inspired me immensely and I give him all of my credit to learn voice control, creativity, as well as entertainment for He was the one and true entertainer of all time. I must say that it is a blessing that I can be here to say that Michael Jackson was a major part of my era in life and music and will never be forgotten.
To all of our MMIM readers, please check out one of my personal favorites he performed on HBO back in the day, I definitely remember sitting in the living room watching this with excitement. This is a video of him doing a live performance of “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” featuring Ms. Siedah Garret. Even though famous R&B singers such as Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston turned down the offer to sing this duet with Michael, I feel the song came together just as beautiful with Siedah. I love you and truly miss you Michael, may you rest in eternal peace.
At one of Beyonce’s recent shows, she covered one of my FAVORITE Michael Jackson’s songs “I Can’t Help It.” She begins singing at the 1:37 mark. Great cover!
