    Throwback Joint of the Week

    September 28, 2009

This week’s throwback is brought to you by Skateboard P, better known as Pharrell Williams with his hit single “Frontin” featuring Jay-Z. I remember having this song on heavy rotation when it was released in June ’03 and was a great summer hit. I have a strong affinity for the Neptune’s for their creative sound that is still pleasing to the listeners to this day…let MMIM know of any memories surrounding this song.

Music’s Best Kept Secret: Tony Moon

    September 26, 2009

    tonymoon2

MMIM had the opportunity to chat with up and coming artist DMV artist, Tony Moon. He speaks about his current mixtape, his upcoming tour, and much more. Check out the interview below and let us know what you think.

MMIM: How did you get starting into the music game?

TM: Peace and blessings MMIM! First of all, I want to give my sincerest thanks for this opportunity. I truly appreciate it.

I first started writing and spitting at Bethel High school in Hampton, VA, freestyling in cafeteria cyphers, and using the then-new internet to post rhymes and study bar and verse structure. I was particularly interested in figurative language and multi-syllable rhyme scheme, ideas I was already enthralled by from English classes. Around that time, I would hit up open mic venues such as Fuzzy Wednesdays to hone my live delivery and stage presence. I was passionate about making music and felt that I wanted to write something socially significant, but I hesitated to release anything, feeling that I had a lot to learn before I could master my craft and positively affect the collective consciousness through music. Which is what I ultimately wanted to do.

As I entered college though and music took a back seat, I started expanding my worldview and solidifying ideas I wanted to get across in my bars. I picked up writing again my senior year (thanks in part to my homie Ced Hughes) and by 2007 had started writing songs that met my standard of quality. Basically as an isolated alcoholic pothead from the cocoon of my apartment, I researched the nature of humanity, wrote, and recorded until I had a product I was ready to share with the world. With the trend of free mixtapes emerging, I saw an opportunity to easily get my name out and test the waters to see how the world would react to my sound. It was with the 2008 release, review, and reception of my first mixtape, “Moonshine: You Know, For Kids!” that I feel I finally got started “into the music game”.

MMIM: What motivates you to write music?

TM: In one word, I’d say its compassion. On my spiritual path, through yielding to intuition/coincidence and following the universe’s energy flow, I’ve begun to see that this world is, and has been for thousands of years, controlled by an elite few bloodlines via secret societies (The Bilderberg Group, Illuminati, Freemasons, Club of Rome, etc.), rituals, propaganda, and the illusion of separation. These entities are responsible for almost every human instance of suffering, yet hide that fact well. Unfortunately, these global elite are very very good at mass mind control and wield the media in all formats as a powerful tool to keep us all disconnected from our true roots and spiritual/psychic potential. I make music to counteract that effect. I write to inject love, oneness, and truth into the collective consciousness as a partial cure to the hate, separation, and lies we’re bombarded by daily. I believe music is an extremely supernatural art form, and can be formidable in catalyzing a mass awakening and (r)evolution. I have the option of keeping this journey of mine personal, but I choose to share what I’ve seen, heard, and experienced because I care about humanity and this information could change lives. I care about every person who’s been deceived, manipulated, and subjugated by this pagan global elite, and awareness, I believe, is our first step to ending tyranny and regaining our personal sovereignty. I write to hopefully affect a listener the way I was affected by my favorite artists.

MMIM: How would you describe your style?
