Coming up in the notorious Young’s Park Projects often meant conforming to the ways of the streets or being a victim. Luckily, music and basketball would prevent GATES from straying to far down the wrong path. Armed with a desire for a change and the knowledge that there was more money to be made outside of the hood than within, GATES followed the direction of a childhood friend and joined the military. While in the military, not only did he get back to his basketball roots but he also perfected his gift of rhyme while strengthening his foundation of friends back home, now calling themselves the PaperBoyz. With a few shows under his belt, a self-financed album on the horizon, and burgeoning digital label, the only natural thing to do was leave the military and pursue music full-time. From the sounds of his hot new single, Money On My Mind, GATES is ready to rule the airways. With that type of talent and drive, it’s only a matter of time before GATES and Lifers Ent. become household names.

Lupe Fiasco recently did an interview with Australian publication, The Age. Within the interview he makes it clear that he is a rare type of rapper valuing substance over glitz and glam. This I am sure is why all his fans truly appreciate his craft because when he raps he addresses real issues unlike most rappers.
Lupe states that, ”I don’t want to be Jay-Z and be worth $400 million and perform on every awards show. It’s getting in touch with somebody who needs to improve their self-esteem. As opposed to driving a Bentley and putting some chains on.”
New music from Raheem DeVaughn from his third studio album “The Love and War MasterPeace” that hits shelves on March 2. Not a bad song but not great either; love Wale’s verse though.
Producer Nabil Elderkin and Estelle have teamed up to create the video for her lastest single Freak featuring Kardinal Offishall. The video will premiere on Friday February 26th at 4pm on www.estellemusic.com. The concept for this video is very eccentric and this is a different tone for Estelle to say the least.
Nicki Minaj can now add host to her roster of activities as she has been selected to to co-host BET’s annual Rip The Runway alongside Pooh Hall aka Derwin from “The Game.” The show will be taped on February 27th and whill feature live performnaces from B.O.B, Estelle, Ludacris, Jaenlle Monae, and Soulja Boy. Barbie Girl Nicki is also slated to perform as well.
The show is slated to premiere on BET on March 15th, so make your check it out.
