MMIM wanted to do a tribute to The Notorius B.I.G since today is his birthday. The late great rapper would have been 37 years old, and while he is not here physically, his music and legacy will continue to live on. This man left a mark on the industry being one of the best lyricist’s in the game and he will forever be missed. Here are some of our favorite Biggie tunes. Let us know what your favorite Biggie classic is.
Today we should all take the time to celebrate Marvin Gaye’s Birthday. This oh so talented man would have been 70 years old today. Although his music was made before I was born, it’s clearly evident that this man’s music is timeless and regardless of when you hear it, IT’S STILL RELEVANT. This is why I truly appreciate the music from the past. Everything was original, meaningful, and fresh. The words that carried each melody went beyond much more than a crazy hook or what could be played in the club. But rather artists truly took their time and created therapy for the ears where people could relate to each and every lyric they were saying.
From Sexual Healing, Distant Lover, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, and so many other classic tunes this man has put out so much great music it’s hard to find your favorite Marvin Gaye tune. What is your favorite Marvin Gaye track? Check out the video below from one of my favorite songs from this musical genius What’s Going On/What’s Happening Brother.
Almost three years ago today, one of the best producer’s ever J. Dilla left us at the age of 32. Now I must say until someone informed me of this man, I was unaware of how many great tracks he had touched. Hence why he is called “your favorite producer’s favorite producer.” From artists including Pete Rock, Common, Busta Rhymes, Janet Jackson, Kanye West, Q-Tip, Mos Def, Erykah Badu and many more J Dilla has had some type of impact within their musical journey. And what makes him even more amazing is even after being diagnosed with lupus, he continued to work hard and did not let his illness affect his grind. Talk about true dedication to your passion!
He went from producer to artist when he joined Slum Village and he eventually went solo releasing albums including Donuts and The Shining. Many artists have also paid tribute to the late talented producer including Erykah Badu whose song Telephone from her New Amerykah album was written based on visions that J. Dilla had according to his mother before his passing.
Check out the J. Dilla playlist below as we pay homage to this talented producer.
