Last Tuesday, May 12, 2009, yours truly was invited to an evening of Poetry, Music, and Spoken word held at the White House in the East Room. First lady Michelle Obama opened the event saying that “the White House is a place where people should feel free to speak their minds”. With Music and spoken word being such a powerful tool of expression, what better form of free speech? President Barack Obama and Michelle welcomed actors, poets and writers from all over the world, such as Spike Lee and Tatiana Ali. This premier event embodied grace and the arts of all different types. The evening featured James Earl Jones, Esperanza Spalding and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The night also included musical interludes, modern poetry and excerpts from Shakespeare. This is the first event of its kind and I must say it was truly impressive. President Obama is changing the face of the White House and the Democratic Party day by day.

This may not have much to do with music. However, it is still relevant as it pertains to our PRESIDENT. Please be sure to tune into CNN on Wednesday, April 29th at 8pm ET as they present The National Report Card: The First 100 Days.
THe show will be Led by anchors Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, John King and Soledad O’Brien and it will tap into the public’s opinion on how President Barack Obama has handled significant issues. Check out the clip below and be sure to tune into tomorrow.
This is definetly worth the 20 mins and 30 seconds. Very inspiring; it features a host of celebrities who tell their story on how they followed Barack Obama and his journey.
Entertainment weekly took the time to do compile a list of artists that are in Obama’s ipod. They got these selections from past Obama interviews where he mentioned his favorite tunes. I must say, our president has rather an eclectic taste.
Stevie Wonder
Bob Dylan
Bruce Springsteen
The Rolling Stones
“A lot of Coltrane, a lot of Miles Davis, a lot of Charlie Parker”
In light of this historic week, I thought the first dance given by First Lady Michelle Obama and our illustrious President Barack Obama was absolutely beautiful!! Kudos to Beyonce as well for doing an amazing job. The chemistry between this dynamic duo is simply inspiring and it makes you truly appreciate the power of LOVE. Let MMIM know what you think.
Words cannot express the emotions that I am feeling today. Today I woke up at 4am, dealt with millions of people, endured the freezing cold, but quite frankly it WAS ALL WORTH IT. Being on the National Mall today was truly inspiring as you saw not just African Americans, but people of all races, colors, and creeds gathered across miles all for one purpose: TO BRING IN OUR NEW PRESIDENT. As tears filled the eyes of many and strangers shared their stories of how far they had traveled I think Americans finally realized that today that it is possible for us to join together if the purpose of that union is for a GREAT cause that brings about not only unity amongst ourselves, but one that also lets us know that their is hope. This man symbolizes power, inspiration, change for the better, pride, triumph, dignity, strength, and most of all FAITH. Faith that we as a people can do all things through hard work, determination, and courage. Barack Obama I truly believe that it was your destiny to not only serve as a great leader but to also be my new commander in chief. You have taught us all that YES WE CAN..YES WE DID..and now YES WE WILL!! Barack Obama YOU ARE truly MY HERO and I look forward to seeing what greatness you bring to our country!
Now this may not have much to do with music. However, it is still extremely relevant. Time Magazine has named President Elect Barack Obama person of the year. This title was beyond well DESERVED for our influential and inspiring new commander in chief. Let MMIM kow what you think about Time’s selection.
