This week’s throwback is brought to you by Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley. This remake to “Turn Your Lights Down Low” was on the Best Man’s soundtrack. Love the mood this song put me into everytime I hear it. Enjoy!

Melanie Fiona recorded a version of herself singing, Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.” It says that she was at home sick but after hearing her sing, it sure doesn’t sound like she was. Melanie Fiona voice even sounds beautiful when she is under the weather. Check it out and let us know what you think.
When I heard that Rihanna was covering Redemption Song, I really wasn’t looking forward to it. This song is a classic and surprisingly, she doesn’t sound too bad on this cover. Although nothing will compare to the original done by Bob Marley, regardless of who remakes it. Rihanna will perform this song on Oprah for the Haiti Special.
Redemption Song
On June 23 in black music history…
In 1962, Ray Charles started a 14-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music’.
In 1975, Bob Marley and The Wailers played the first of 14 shows over 7 nights at Paul’s Mall in Boston, Massachusetts, as part of their Natty Dread Tour.
In 2002, Nelly started a seven week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Hot In Here.’
In honor of Black History Month, BET recently released their list for the top 25 influential individuals in the music game. Check out the top ten artists they have picked below and let MMIM know if you agree or disagree. I must admit though if I had created this list Donny Hathaway would have definitely been in the top ten along with Sam Cook and Anita Baker. Just my thoughts.
1. Bob Marley
2. Michael Jackson
3. Prince
4. Ella Fitzgerald
5. Little Richard
6. James Brown
7. Ray Charles
8. Aretha Franklin
