Lauryn Hill is looking oh so lovely and like she never left in these pictures from recent “Rock the Bells” show. The show will be here in DC on August 29th which includes a crazy lineup (Click here to see the lineup). Can’t wait to see the Lauryn we’ve all missed.
Lauryn Hill performed at a concert in Lisbon, Portugal recently in front of a crowd of 40,000. The concert was to the celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Portuguese Republic. Lauryn performed “Killing Me Softly, Turn Your Lights Down Low and Ready or Not.” Enjoy!
Lauryn Hill recently went into the studio and blessed us with new music. The title of the track is called “Repercussions”; hopefully this is not the last and we will get an album on the way.
NPR recently did a dope interview with Lauryn Hill where she discusses a host of things including on why she stopped making music, what it means to her to perform live, and being a mother. Here is an excerpt from the interview.
NPR: I ask her the question her fans have been asking each other for years: Why did you stop putting out music?
Lauryn Hill: “There were a number of different reasons,” she says. “But partly, the support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it. In fact, as musicians and artists, it’s important we have an environment — and I guess when I say environment, I really mean the [music] industry, that really nurtures these gifts. Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society, or at least some aspect of society. And it’s important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected.”
Fans of Lauryn Hill were in for a treat this past weekend. She performed at the Harmony Festival in California. She did various hits from her solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and The Fugees, The Score. Check it out and let us know what you think.
I’m pretty sure when folks thought of the day Lauryn Hill would make a public appearance that she wouldn’t look this good! Rap-Up caught rare public pictures of our favorite lyricist/singer at the Tanzania Education Trust New York Gala in New York. Looking gorgeous as ever, she is photograph with Anthony Hamilton on the red carpet. Lovely pics, enjoy!

One of my favorites of all time, Lauryn Hill has been confirmed to perform at this year’s Montreux Jazz Festival. Ms. Hill will perform alongside Herbie Hancock, Q-tip, Little Brother, Lily Allen, Raphael Saadiq and much more. The Montreux Jazz Festival is annual summer event in Europe. The dates for the festival are July 3 – 18.
“It’s a festival like no other. You don’t have to buy a ticket to take advantage, there are lots of free events from noon to five in the morning,” founder Claude Nobs told Reuters Thursday.
Since Europe isn’t in my plans anytime soon, I will have to catch the youtube video and you know MMIM will post as soon as we get it. But for those folks who may visit Europe during the month of July, you can purchase tickets www.montreuxjazz.com
MMIM will begin to bring you old videos from the past every week. We would love to hear your thoughts about the song/video, how it makes or made you feel, and what you were doing when this video came out. This week is “Ex-Factor” from Lauryn Hill’s Grammy winning solo Project, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Enjoy.
Bob Marley’s Widow, Rita Marley, is producing a movie about her late husband’s life. She has already announced that she would like Lauryn Hill to portray her in the movie because “she sees my life as her life,” Rita Marley said. But it is still up in the air who will play Bob himself. There are rumors of Don Cheadle being cast for the role. What do you think? Who should play this legend?
