For those of you that are unaware, the Glastonbury is a dope festival that happens in the UK annually. This year the festival will take place from June 24th-27th and over 600 acts are expected to attend. Talk about music meltdown. A new platform has been thrown into the mix entitled the West Holts, where artists such as Mos Def, George Clinton, Brother Ali, and the Parliament Funkadelic are expected to perform.
Here is the latest video from Mos Def, entitled Super Magic. The video is pretty dull to say the least, but the beat is crazy. His delivery is also on point with this track. Let MMIM know what you think.
Check out this trailer for a segment featuring Mos Def and the Cool Kids. The trailer was directed and filmed by Michael Sterling Eaton, and it provides a glimpse of how these artists work in the studio, chill out, and how they prepare for performances. Let MMIM know what you think.
FRIDAY THE 13th: A NIGHT WITH THE COOL KIDS and MOS DEF from Creative Control on Vimeo.
After watching the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards last night I must admit that the only part that I truly enjoyed were the cyphers. Check out my favorite cypher from last night that includes Eminem, Mos Def, Black Thought & DJ Premier. Of course we know that Eminem killed it!! Took me back to the Eight Mile days.
This week we take you back to the year of 1999 with Mos Def and his hit single “Ms Fat Booty” found on his “Black on Both Sides” album. The production includes samples of Aretha Franklin’s “One Step Ahead,” which is a rare single to begin with, but the creativity came together to produce a hot track. I consider this song to be a sheer classic and still gets put on rotation. Share your memories that may surround this song with MMIM and readers alike.
At a recent show, Mos Def did his tribute to the late, great Michael Jackson in his version of Billie Jean. Mos Def has really been showcasing his singing skills lately…I wonder what’s next for the rapper/actor…hmmmm, just a thought.

Just in case you missed it last night, Mos Def stopped by Jimmy Fallon to perform his single, “Casa Bey.” And just in case you forget, “The Ecstatic” dropped yesterday (June 9, 2009).
Here is a new video from Mos Def from his upcoming album “Estatic”. Let us know what you think.
I’m posting this video because I never knew there was a video for this song. According to Kanye, it didn’t get any play for a reason….”This video never got played because I refused to remove the titles on it. They said people will think a TV show is going off and I said that’s the whole point. Wow… even only 3 videos in to the game…. I refused to compromise my vision.”
I just love when artists step outside the box and explore the art of music – for example, Phonte of Little Brother, Kanye and now Mos Def. We need more artists that show their creativity. The art of music has no boundaries and Mos Def showcased that very well on his cover to Kanye West “Say You Will.” This is live audio of the song and is just pure hotness. Let us know what you think.
