Great cover! I used to absolutely love this song back in the day. Solange voice is growing and she proves herself with every song or performance she does. Check out Solange’s and Dirty Projectors rendition below of Groove Theory’s “Tell Me”.

Check out this new track that Solange recently recorded while in the studio working on her next album. I’m so excited to hear more material from her, Solange is really growing as a artist, and her music displays it. Listen to Stillness is the Move below and let us know what you think.
Stillness is the Move
I am so in love with this story that Solange Knowles did for Honey Magazine. She looks goregous on the October issue. The photographer did a excellent job of catching Solo’s beauty and her eccentric taste. Make sure you check out the entire interview as she talks about her new album, her new ‘do that everyone is buzzing about and being a single mom.
Click here to read the interview in its entirety.
Click on more to see some of the pics from her shoot.
Check out Solange’s interview with Oprah where she discusses why she did the big chop. She makes a lot of valid points in this interview about how African American woman center their entire schedules around hair and so on. Let MMIM know what you think.
Twitter never fails. I came across this video that someone posted on Twitter. It’s Solange covering Bjork’s “It’s Oh So Quiet”. Now I never heard the original song before so I had to pull it up on youtube and give it a listen. Solo is doing her thing as a artist. She has covered songs from different genres like Coldplay and now Bjork. And let’s not forget that she does an amazing job covering these songs. Check out her performance below. The video was taken earlier this week in Belgium. You can also watch Bjork version below.
I like Lady GaGa but I’m just not feeling her version of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”. I like her own spin she put on the track but I’m just too in love with the original that I can’t give the “Lady” a thumbs up.
But let’s rewind a bit…back to Solange’s cover of “Viva La Vida”. Hers is the best out of the two – in my opinion. She did an awesome job. Solange rocks!
Let us know which one you like better or if you just prefer the original.
Solange is evolving into the soul star that she is…I love this chick! Her music is amazing. This is Solange on Jimmy Fallon singing her single, T.O.N.Y.
“Get me, get me, out of this box I feel so claustrophobic in here. Leave your labels lead with no vision, hear my voice and fill with your ears. I’m no soul girl equipped with no afro, I’m just my God given name. I’m not becoming expectations, I’m not her and never will be. Two girls gone in different directions traveling towards the same galaxy. Let my starlight shine on it’s own, I’m no sister, I’m just my God given name.”
I love this chick. Solange is really doing her thing and her performance on AOL Blackvoices was on point. I have never seen her perform live but I love the energy she brings when she is on stage. She performed songs from her current album, “Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams.” Check it out below and let us know what you think.
I swear, this lineup is so predictable; every year, its the same artists. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. These artists are doing their thing on the charts and are highly successful. So it would only make sense that they would draw a big crowd like the Essence Music Festival.
Tickets are on sale now, but if you purchase before February 15 you will get a 15% discount, which is good seeing that the cheapest ticket is $130.50. The 3 day festival is July 3-5 and some of the artists to perform are:
Beyonce (you already know Bey was sent the first invite)
Maxwell
Anita Baker
Al Green
John Legend
Solange
Robin Thicke
En Vogue
Teena Marie
Eric Benet
Janelle Monae
Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
Here is my and almost everyone else’s favorite track from Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams, T.O.N.Y. This was done in the same session when she covered Coldplay’s Viva la Vida (and did a damn good job might I add). Solange is blossoming into a great performer. Check out her performance below and let us know what you think.
My girl Solange had the chance to cover Coldplay’s “Vida La Vida”. I think she did her thing with this song. Her energy and stage presence was on point.
What do you guys think?
Here is Coldplay version below.
Miss Solange Knowles has come a long way with her musical talents and style. So with that being said, her lyrics in her song titled “This Bird” were analyzed. Her album does a good job of capturing that classic soul sound; and this particular song consists of Solange singing over the track “Slow This Bird Down” originally done by “Boards of Canada,” which happens to be an album full of some good sounds as well. To keep my analytical attempt general, I feel Solange may be referring to her coming up as a young lady, witnessing the many influences in life that can either make you or break you. Making the right life choices; how she may not be a saint, but in the same token, she’s not out doing wrong, so not matter what she’s going to live and reach her reaches her goals.

“Once in a time
Where the girls feel like girls
And the world is painted
Cotton candy
Where the sweet lemonade
Of mcgregor street
Was the best the damn thing of the summer breeze
Your dad drives a foreign car
And your mama looks like a beauty queen
Now the sour bitter days
Of a colorless place
Seems to light up my nights somehow
And the music I play must be loud, loud, loud, loud, loud as can be
So I don’t have to hear myself think
So I don’t have to wake up from this dream
I don’t wanna sing no single mama blues
I’m not singin look at me I’ve been abused
O I’m honestly lost girl starin at you
So maybe ill put on my high heel shoes
And soar the night away
And soar the night away
But whatever I do
I’m not gonna slow this bird down
I don’t wanna look life in the eye
I’m not gonna fall face first in the spiral called a life
I’m not in denial
I’m not suicidal
Not an alcoholic
I’m not out here whoring
So just shut the f**k up
This birds not slowing down
Once in a while
When the sun does its job
Lets the clouds take a nice day off
I can breeze through the day”
Let MMIM know your thoughts of what Solange may be referring to in this song.
