For those that may have missed the BET Honors last night, check out these performances from Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, India Arie, Stevie Wonder, and Trey Songz. Overall, the show was pretty good and all of the tributes were well done. Let MMIM know what you think.
Congrats are in order to Stevie Wonder who recently received a Grammy nomination for his anthem, “All About The Love Again.” Stevie Wonder has always been a advocate for many charities and causes so it only seemed right when he joined the United Nations Messengers of Peace.
“Stevie Wonder’s activism has been pivotal in US and world events,” the UN noted, citing the 1983 campaign he spearheaded to make Martin Luther King Day a national holiday in the US, and his advocacy for ending apartheid in South Africa,” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said.
Watch the Grammy’s on January 31 at 8pm on CBS to see the results.
Melanie Fiona along with the talented Brian McKnight covered Stevie Wonder’s classic hit “Someday at Christmas.” Beautifully done. Hope to see a collabo from these two in the near future.
The Michael Jackson Memorial tribute took place today and I must say it was extremely touching, yet sad at the same time. While thousands tweeted, updated Facebook statuses during the service you could not help but to realize what type of impact this man left on the planet. As the King of Pop’s golden casket was rolled in at first there was a quiet eeriness within the Staple Center, but once the performances started it almost became a celebration of this influential man’s life. With tearful performances from Usher and Mariah Carey, exhilarating speeches from Al Sharpton, as well as the famous Congresswoman millions watched in awe as these people paid their last respects to the greatest performer to EVER grace our planet. MMIM sends our prayers and condoloscences to the Jackson family, as well as his friends. And although we did not know Michael personally, when he MJ left this earth a lot of us felt like we lost a close relative. However, we must remember that everything in life happens for a reason. Jackson led a remarkable life bringing joy to the lives of others and now his beautiful spirit is gracing the heavens above. R.I.P Michael Jackson. We love you!
