Let MMIM know if you are feeling this particular mixtape, which will be available for official download tomorrow, July 28th.

Melanie Fiona is one of our newfound loves here at MMIM. She has so much soul and her music is like a breath of fresh air. This song is already in rotation on my ipod but now I can add the remix that features Talib Kweli. Check it out below and let us know what you think.
Check out the videos below from The Roots concert last night that took place in NYC. These videos are the first installment of a series that they will be headlining at the Highline Ballroom entitled The Jam. Many artists came out last night including Talib Kweli, Chrisette Michelle, Pharoahe Monch, and many more. Special shout out to OG HipHop for providing the footage. Let MMIM know what you think.

For our fourth category we want YOU ALL to let us know which rap artist has lyrical skills that inspire and make you actually want to pick up a microphone yourself and spit a verse. Once again to pick your winner you must select your choice in the poll application below. The nominees are as follows for Who Rocks the Mic:
I was listening to one of my favorite hip hop albums, BlackStar, with Talib Kweli and Mos Def, and a song called “Thieves in the Night” started to play. It grasped my attention due to Mos Def’s rebuttal he delivered after his heavy-hitting verse:
A lot of people don’t understand the true criteria of things
Can’t just accept the appearance
Have to get the true essence
I love this lyric because it compliments how I feel in regards to how we should be. We all think we know what’s going on just by looking at the surface instead of getting the facts to help shape your perception. Let MMIM know what you feel Mos Def was referring to in his lyric.
This tuesday be on the lookout for Talib Kweli’s first live concert DVD. “Live at the Shrine” features 17 of the MC’s hits and also includes guest appearances from KRS-One, Strong Arm Steady, and Res. The DVD will also include behind the scenes footage and interviews.
“The crowd forms the ceremony. We’re the masters of the ceremony,” Kweli says in the film’s trailer. “And it’s just a beautiful feeling, man, that transition, the energy, from them to us, us to them. It can’t be contained. It can’t be described. It can only be felt.”
I never had the chance to see Talib in concert, so I am definitely looking forward to this release.
Here are two tracks that just hit the internet from Talib Kweli that did not make the “Eardrum” album. I’m glad he decided to release these tracks, it really makes me appreciate Talib for the MC that he is.
First track is “Take it Back” featuring Marsha Ambrosius and next is “Gettin My Grown Man On” featuring Little Brother.
Enjoy!

Talib Kweli has released another single and music video from his latest album, “Eardrum”. The song “Hostile Gospel Pt. 1 (Deliver Us)” was produced by Just Blaze. Talib decided to do something different and taped this video in Lagos, Nigeria. Let MMIM know what you think about the video.
“It’s kinda hard to keep faith in the things that you do when everybody turns their back on you…Yeah I know a city that’s surrounded by a beautiful beach, the economy boosted by the drugs they move in the street, more clearer than the crystal sky, blue as the beast. The people ain’t got shoes for they feet, or food to eat, so they hurtin’ but what’s for certain you can get you some heat, and over beef you laid to rest like you was gettin’ some sleep. Where the little kids get ammunition you can’t get no nutrition, or any type of suitable living condition…ask a cat what really matters, Nowadays usually it’s his pockets.”
As always Talib speaks the truth. This man gives you food for thought. When I first heard this song, it made me stop and realize the things that are going on in the world today but are continuously overlooked. Listening to Talib speak about the children in this verse is depressing. Children have better access to guns than good food and water. And this is normal, everyday living for them…but it shouldn’t be. We need to be more conscious of the world around us and not just what is in front of us. We need to get back to what really matters.
