Check out the lineup for this year’s Roots picnic. As always, the event is held in Philadelphia on the first Saturday of June. Let us know if you plan to attend.
In this clip, Black Thought talks about making “grown man hip hop” with his last two albums “WakeUp!” and “How I Got Over.” The Roots may have a summer album release as well as a solo project from Black Thought. He also mentioned that he is working with the great Danger Mouse! Sounds like its going to be a great summer.
It took us a while to come up with this list, since 2010 was the year of quite a few great projects. However, after careful consideration this is what we came up with. Please note that there is no particular order, just the albums that we felt produced the best work. Feel free to chime in here and let us know if you agree or disagree with our picks.
Not bad at all. Black Thought’s voice sounds pretty good singing the Nat King Cole famous song, “The Christmas Song.” The Roots performed this song last night on Jimmy Fallon. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
I absolutely love the latest video from The Roots for their track Now or Never, which can be found on their latest album How I Got Over. I appreciate how they used various individuals from different walks of life in order to showcase their lyrics visually, so that any and everyone can relate to the true message of the song.

Over the weekend, Lauryn Hill performed at the, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s” at the Waldorf Astoria. The Roots accompanied her when she entertained the crowd with her hits as well as a cover of legendary Bob Marley’s “Is This Love.”
Marsha performed her new single, “I Hope She Cheats” at the Hennessy Artistry tour in Detroit. She was backed by the baddest band, The Roots. Check it out and let us know what you think.
Dope behind the scenes video of John Legend and The Roots putting together the vocals for a track entitled I Can’t Write Left Handed. I am looking forward to hearing this entire project.
The Roots, Melanie Fiona, Common and John Jegend release the video for their collaboration, “Wake Up Everybody”. You can find this song on The Roots and John Legend joint project, “Wake up!” As I said before, amazing cover to compliment a great video. Check it out below.
The Roots and John Legend did not make an appearance in their Rik Cordero directed video, but he explains that the hook, “you don’t say good luck, you say don’t give up inspired him to create a period piece narrative that stays true to the lyrics while adding another layer to the interpretation.”
Check out the video for “The Fire” below and let us know what you think.
