It’s been a while since we have did a “Throwback” for the week so I felt like it was necessary. The week’s video is from Scarface’s 1996 album “The Untouchable.” “Smile” featured the late Tupac Shakur and gave Scarface much success making the single certified gold.
Yesterday, 2Pac’s hit, “Dear Mama” was inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. Every year, songs that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” are chosen. The recordings are preserved at a facility in Culpeper, Virgina. Nominations were gathered by public submissions via online and from the National Recording Preservation Board members.
Previous hip hop honorees include Grandmaster Flash and The Furious 5′s “The Message” and Public Enemy’s Fear of A Black Planet. 2Pac’s “Dear Mama” is the third hip hop song to receive this honor.
Okay so it has been sooo long since we have done a Mood of the Week on the site, but for some reason I feel it’s needed. Sooner or later time reveals what is real, and sometimes those truths are not always what you want to hear because you either were naive to what was happening right before your eyes. This eventually can cause you to be in complete shock once everything has come to light. However, these three songs by these iconic rappers in my opinion have a way of taking me to another place and forgetting all the B.S. that has been positioned in my life. Because when I remember that the sky is my limit I begin to smile, because life is too short to focus on the negative. Enjoy these classic pieces. What’s your mood this week?
Tupac’s One Nation album will finally get the chance to grace your ears. The album that was originally recorded in 1996 with Brooklyn NY’s Boot Camp Clik in order to squash the beef that had ensued between the east and west coast. Boombox.com has reported that once Tupac died the album was laid to rest, but A.E.G now has rights to the album and plans to release it digitally on iTunes on March 20th.
Let MMIM know how you feel about the release of the One Nation LP, and if you plan to purchase these tunes.
This is Keyshia Cole’s first single from her upcoming project, A Different Me. The album hits stores December 18. The track is smooth and as always, Keyshia sounds great. I love the 2Pac feature.
In celebration of Tupac’s birthday earlier this week, the Throwback Joint of the Week is “Keep Ya Head Up.” This song is inspiring and pays respects to women who are trying to live in society today. This is a great pick for any week. Enjoy!
Forbes Magazine recently listed Tupac Shakur at #8 for the “Top-Earning Dead Celebrities.” Last year Tupac’s estate accounted for over $9 million in sales and this year he has a double album coming out on December 4th entitled “The Best of 2Pac.” This cd will features the artist’s greatest hits, as well as unreleased songs and two new remixes.
As a devout Tupac fan. I think it is a beautiful thing that people are still supporting this talented man. Tupac was not only a rapper, but he was a true artist excelling in poetry, writing and even dance. Tupac was not afraid to say what was on his mind and that is what set him a part from other rappers. He addressed controversy and he provided an outlet for the urban community. In addition to addressing controversy Tupac showed his appreciation to women with songs like “Keep Your Head Up” and “Dear Mama.”
