Please see the message below from by Wyclef Jean on yesterday’s magnitude 7.0 earthquake outside Port-au-Prince, Haiti:
“Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince. I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now. President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands ‘ready to assist’ the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.”
Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now. We are asking those interested to please do one of two things: Either you can use your cell phone to text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can visit www.Yele.org and click on DONATE.
MMIM would like to send out our prayers to Haiti and we are asking that all of you do the same, as well as donate whatever you can.
Once again Hip Hop has been tapped to influence this year’s election. The Democratic party will feature performances from Wyclef Jean, Nerd, and Mr. West himself at their National Convention in Denver. The event is four days and will start on August 25th. All I can say is Wow!! This is going to be an amazing experience to have Obama, Kanye and Nerd all on the same stage!!!
The acts chosen to support Obama reflect how instrumental this election year is, as well as how important it is for us to influence the youth to take a stand and vote.
Let MMIM know what you think.

Haiti native and 1/3 of the legendary group, The Fugees, Wyclef Jean arrived in Haiti on Sunday (November 10) to establish numerous programs to benefit youth in his homeland. According to the Associated Press, this is Wyclef’s first visit to the Caribbean nation since being named as their ambassador in January. While in Haiti, he plans to set up computer labs, classrooms and counseling for jailed children gang members through his Yele Haiti charity. He also has plans to help local women’s groups sell food in the seaside slum of Cite Soleil, and establish a youth scholarship and soccer program.
“If you want to change a country, unfortunately, you’re not going to be able to help 8 million people at one time,” he told reporters upon his arrival.. “But if you can get one or two or three and start to make that change, that will make the difference.”
